The Government has insisted there will be a "wide choice and ready supply of fresh food" after a no-deal Brexit, despite claims it will be the "worst of all worlds" for the UK's high streets. Michael Gove, Chancellor of the Duchy of Lancaster, denied making inaccurate statements over the availability of food following Brexit, telling the Commons that, while some commodities may go up in price, others could go down.
Mr Baker was initially deputy chair to the influential group of which fellow Brexiteer Mark Francois is also a member. Sir Nicholas Soames told The Sun that unless Mr Johnson could guarantee a no deal, he would vote against him and join forces with Labour. I don't doubt Boris wants to get a deal, but I do not believe he has the means to will the end. His demands are unreal and I cannot condone No Deal. It also goes on to refer to readings of no longer than 30 minutes, before confirming the future of Brexit will be wrapped up by 5pm on Friday.
No10 have confirmed the exact time Phillip Lee quit in the House of Commons was 3. It was a pointed move just a few rows back from the PM and his front bench. If successful, and should the bill pass HouseofCommons , Peers would debate all stages before 5pm this Friday: pic. The Guardian reports she does not want MPs not to have the chance to debate the domestic violence bill.
The House of Lords will conclude on whether legally they can stop a no deal Brexit by 5pm tomorrow. This is on the basis of whether the PM loses a vote on blocking a no deal this evening, of which many are saying this is likely. Brexit Party leader Nigel Farage has given Boris Johnson a lifeline, by stating he will work with the Tories aiming for a coalition on one condition.

Mr Farage said his Brexit Party will form a coalition with the Tories should it come to a general election if Mr Johnson forces through a no deal Brexit. He was told by Mr Johnson all he and his Remainer colleagues want to do is block a no deal Brexit. He told the House Angela Merkel said she had not got a proposal on how to sort the backstop issue out. My letter to the Prime Minister: pic. Jeremy Corbyn demanded Boris Johnson tell the House of Commons of any new ideas he has put forward to the EU to replace the backstop issue.
Boris Johnson has issued a statement in the House of Commons regarding the G7 summit that also saw him take a swipe at Remainers. The pound today hit its lowest level since the s ahead of a crucial Brexit showdown in Parliament this evening. The news comes as Boris Johnson failed to persuade rebel Tories to vote with the Government later tonight instead of against it on blocking a no deal Brexit.
Number 10 has ordered MPs to brand the Bill is a "shameful document" which could lead to the "permanent cancellation of Brexit". During a joint pres conference with Leo Varadkar, he said: "The United States supports the United Kingdom's decision to leave the European Union but we also recognise the unique challenges on your border and I can assure you we will continue to encourage the United Kingdom and Ireland to ensure any Brexit deal respects the Good Friday Agreement. Nicola Sturgeon is to demand Holyrood be given the power to hold a second independence referendum. The First Minister confirmed she will "seek agreement to the transfer of power that will put the referendum beyond legal challenge".
She added: "Let me by crystal clear today - the SNP will put Scotland's opposition to Brexit and our right to choose independence at the very heart of that context. Jeremy Corbyn will speak. The EU's executive have said a no deal Brexit is a "very distinct possibility" and EU citizens and businesses must be ready for Britain's departure on October European Commission spokeswoman Mina Andreeva said: "Our working assumption is that there will be Brexit on October Asked whether a no deal exit was now the most likely scenario, she said: "I would say it is a very distinct possibility, which is precisely why we launch this final call to be prepared in case a no-deal Brexit occurs.
Asked if Labour was ready to support a vote for a general election under any circumstance, Mr Corbyn stressed the no-deal prevention legislation was the priority. Pressed for clarity, he said: "Let's see what happens after this legislation has gone through and if an election is called, I'm absolutely ready to fight it. The circle is complete. He tweeted: "Of course the Speaker will accept this Brexit blocking attempt later.
Boris Johnson sought to scare off a rebellion last night when he warned he would push for a snap general election if rebel MPs succeed in their bid to block a no deal Brexit. Assuming that a similar disaster occurs here, of the east coast of New Zealand, at the Raukumara Basin — which is deeper than the Gulf of Mexico — how much oil could be released in those two weeks? A simple bit of math: One hundred and twenty five million litres.
Rena on 5 October released 1, litres 1, tonnes of heavy fuel oil and a further litres tonnes of marine diesel into the sea see: Acknowledgment — The Guardian — New Zealand oil spill — in pictures. The Raukumara Basin in some areas extend to over 6, metres 6 kilometres in depth;. I stand by my full statement, which included that we want to balance our economic opportunities with our environmental responsibilities; because it is true. I think it is also worth remembering that if somebody gets a permit to go and undertake these activities in the exclusive economic zone, not only would this Government be filling a gap that was previously left open but also there would no doubt be conditions on that.
Finally, as I said yesterday, there have been 50, wells drilled in the Gulf of Mexico. Is the member arguing that all of those wells were a high risk and should have been closed up? How is deep-sea drilling not putting the environment at undue risk, when the head of the Petroleum Exploration and Production Association said in April Firstly, I mean, the member asked me yesterday about the head of Anadarko.
One of the things he did say to me in the meeting was that there were a lot of learnings that had come out of that situation, and that they can be applied so that those things do not happen again. Secondly, if the member is reflecting on a comment by an individual that basically says there are no guarantees in life, well, actually, that is true, but, on the same basis, the member will never get on a plane again, never get in a car again, never get on a train again, never do a lot of things he does, because the risk is that something very bad can happen. How is deep-sea drilling not putting the environment at undue risk when a leak at 2.
All of those issues in mitigation of any risk would have to be considered as part of an application to drill in the exclusive economic zone. How is deep-sea drilling not putting the environment at undue risk, given that the Gulf of Mexico disaster was stopped only when a second rig drilled a relief well, and this Government will not require a relief rig to be on site during deep-sea drilling operations in New Zealand?
The member is jumping to conclusions. He does not know what conditions will be set. But, in the end, I mean, this is really the fundamental problem, is it not, with the Green Party. What Green members are arguing is that everything contains some risk, so they do not want to do anything, except that they want to give lots and lots of money away, which is why they come up with the only solution that that person could come up with—print it!
I raise a point of order, Mr Speaker. It was about deep-sea oil production. I think we will consider it a draw at that point. Given that the Prime Minister is putting enormous weight on this new piece of flimsy legislation, the exclusive economic zone Act, how does he think that this particular piece of legislation will plug an oil leak at 2. Does he think that might work? I think it is unlikely a couple of bits of paper will work.
But let us cut to the chase here. We are a Government that is actually filling a gap that has been missing from our environmental protection. That member has been in the House for how long? Oh, that is right—none. What he is focused on is printing money. That is his focus of attention. On this occasion I invite the member to reflect on the question he asked.
It kind of invited the sort of response he got. Why has this Government taken a major anti-environmental turn since the election; is it because of the rising influence of Steven Joyce and others—environmental bandits within the National Party—who now dominate Cabinet and the Prime Minister?
It is because this is a Government that wants, in an environmentally sensible and considered way, also to grow the economic opportunities for New Zealanders. That member wants to go down to the West Coast and say it is really bad that people are losing their jobs, potentially, at Spring Creek, while at exactly the same time he is stopping them getting a job down the road.
I call that hypocrisy. In the Radio NZ article above, Stuart Boggan said that deep water drilling is not that complicated and Anadarko has been doing it successfully for 15 years in 15 countries. Acknowledgement — NZ unprepared for deep water oil spill — Greens. John Key, Simon Bridges, and other National ministers are either badly informed or outright lying. This government is engaged in risky, reckless policies that — if a disaster occurs — could have repercussions that would dwarf the Rena oil spill.
In the late s, one of the very first protest activities I became involved in was highlighting the imprisonment of Soviet dissidents in the now-defunct USSR. This was of intense interest to me because of my Eastern European heritage. Most of which were located in the Moldavian region and not the archetypal Siberian labour camp that Westerners thought characterised the Soviet political penal system. One that we are simply unprepared for, as the grounding of the MV Rena showed, eighteen months later. TV3 -Key keeps meeting with Anadarko boss quiet.
In normal circumstances it would seem unusual that a Prime Minister would keep such a top-level meeting secret. Especially where there is Big Money to be made. What are protesters in for? So we are acting, and so two offences are going to be put into the Crown Minerals Bill. Look, the first of those is truly criminal offence. Then a lesser, more infringement offence, really, strict liability offence for entering within a specified area, probably up to metres within that ship, again because of the dangers associated with doing that.
You look at Australia, you look at other countries, they already do this. Even the Exclusive Economic Zone, as I say, a massive area — 4 million-odd square kilometres — there are some provisions for oil rigs and so on.

I believe that passionately. My point is there are a huge variety of ways which New Zealanders can protest about anything. It will be passed through Parliament as a Supplementary Order Paper, meaning that it will avoid Select Committee scrutiny or a Public consultation process. It does away with the Parliamentary process; it avoids scrutiny by a Select Committee; and it eliminates any opportunity for the public to be involved by making submissions.
Radio NZ — Legislation cracking down on mining protests passes third reading. This approach, however, was not shared by Camilla Brunsberg of the Conservative Party, who contended that the couples should have been dissolved. Brunsberg argued that there was no other alternative, as all other solutions implied that Sweden was backtracking in its acceptance of child marriage. While freedom-loving people who are opposed to the systemic abuse and exploitation of children have good reason to be gravely concerned about what Sweden is doing to itself, sharing such incendiary falsehoods, replete with completely unrelated pictures, can only serve to:.
